We are pleased to announce that we will be performing live at the jazz café bar "Kutsurogi" in Hanno on Sunday, June 16th, from 1:30 PM♪
Kutsurogi is a jazz lab created by owner and drummer Takeshi Yokoo, who remodeled his home in Hanno City, Saitama Prefecture, to share moments of relaxation through jazz. The café aims to provide a space where visitors can take a breather and chat casually about jazz music and everyday topics. I had the pleasure of visiting once, and it was a very warm and relaxing venue.
This time, it will be our first leader live with a guitar, bass, and drum ensemble! Let me first introduce our bassist, Taro Sakakibara.
Taro moved to France in 2014 and completed the 5th level of education at the École Normale de Musique. He then studied improvisation, composition, and advanced techniques under Jean-Philippe Viret, a world-renowned double bassist, at the Montreuil Conservatory, obtaining the SylvDEM (French National Diploma). Since 2019, Taro has been based in Japan, actively performing mainly in Tokyo.
Next, I would like to introduce the drummer and owner, Takeshi Yokoo.
Yokoo was initially captivated by the music of the Cream Band, featuring Eric Clapton, Jack Bruce, and Ginger Baker, and began teaching himself to play the drums. During his university years, he discovered Miles Davis' records and fell in love with jazz, starting his journey as a jazz drummer. He later joined Mike Maki and the Wranglers, performing at live houses and on TV. After the Wranglers disbanded, he studied under jazz drummer George Otsuka, relearning the basics of drumming. While working as a salaried employee, he continued his musical activities until the age of 40. In 2022, upon turning 70, he resumed his career as a jazz drummer after a 30-year hiatus, performing at various live houses in Tokyo. Since October 2023, he has opened a handmade jazz café bar (live house) at his home, where he continues to perform to this day.
